I love to see the Temple. 11/14/2011

Alrighty. This week I can barely even remember so here we go.

Brother Harbour is just doing swimmingly. He is all set for baptism on the 20th of November. We are so excited. He is the most legit person ever. Next week you will have pictures of the best day ever!:)

A lot of the other people we have been teaching are not being as receptive right now. So this week has been interesting...

Yesterday was the Leander Ward Primary Program. It was pretty cute. Their primary is HUGE! I am serious. There were probs like 5 million kids up on the stand. It was craz. But, my absolute favorite part was this: There is this girl who is blind and probs like 11 years old. So she got up and sang this solo slash talked about the song. She sang "I love to see the Temple." And I am going to tell you the spirit was so strong when this little girl was up there. She would sing a few words and then talk about them. Like this, "I love to see the temple...I see the temple with my hands and with my heart. "I'm going there some day..." and she would go on and expound on certain parts of the song and things like this. And I am not kidding it was so amazing. You could just feel the love of our Heavenly Father fill the room as this sweet spirit sang about His holy house. It was the best.

Other than that, I guess the question is, am I still with Elder Caldwell, and the answer is yes I am. Staying together for another 6 weeks. That'll be cool. Time is flying by, also. I don't even understand how it got to be November anyway.

Have a splendid week! I know I will. Brother Harbour is going to be BAPTIZED!!! :)

Leander, Here I sit. 11/7/2011

So we got transfer calls last night. I will be staying in Leander for another 6 weeks. I'm extremely excited because there is so much going on here and so much potential we have to work with, its just the down time I am worried about. I already feel like I have knocked every street so that will be fun. But no for real, I am excited to stay!

MIRACLES: You know, I don't think I could ever deny the fact that there is a God. I have seen way too many miracles in my life to deny that truth. I feel like every day is a miracle, but especially this week I had an amazing experience.
We found this family who told us to come back, so we did and taught them and it went well. When we came back for our return appt. they were not there. HOWEVER their neighbor was outside and he walked up and started talking to us. (Now you need to realize, this is in the somewhat ghetto part of Leander... the smallest part ever...) Anyway, so he is from Mexico and such a good guy. So we set up to come back to him, which we did. When we came back he was sitting on the tailgate of his truck and just hanging out and then he was real nice and all that jazz. He was talking to us and really opened up. He talked about how he has so much sadness in his life and that he will come home from work and remember all the sadness that he has and just kind of drink beer, and he had a beer with him. So anyway I said, "You don't need to be drinking..." And I tell him about how God is his Heavenly Father and He loves him and is always there for him. And before I knew it, he grabs his beer and just dumps it out on the ground and says, "I don't need this." I was so proud of this man. And it is incredible the amount of love I was feeling for him, even from the time that we had walked up and started talking. So we got to know him more an then began to teach him the plan of salvation. He had a hard time understanding, so a lot of what we said I had to repeat in Spanish for him. I am not even kidding you. My spanish was so good, and I don't say that to brag about it, but because I KNOW that this man needed to hear and UNDERSTAND in his own tongue this message. I know that God blessed me in order to carry that message His needing child. So, we had a great time with him and he is very excited about the Book of Mormon and about praying and coming to church, he even said he wants to be baptized. When we asked him what day we could come back he said, "For me...Every day." I AM SO EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO TEACH HIM! I know that Heavenly Father has sent me here and kept me here for that reason. I can communicate wth him and I feel a strong bond and love for this man. I am so blessed to be able to be a part of this work and be an instrument in God's hands for the benefit of His children.

Everything is going well here in Leander. I learn and grow so much every day.

El Dia de los Muertos. 10/31/2011

First off. Cliche: Happy Halloween. Even though I have always been a crazy scaredy pants, I secretly love Halloween.

Great news. Yesterday we learned that Brother Harbour has set a date to be baptized! The weekned of November 19th! AHHHH! I am so happy for him! And I cannot wait for it!

The "Trunk or Treat" was this week and we stopped by. It was pretty good. All the kids were like, "You should have dressed up!" And so that was kinda funny I guess. It was so cold outside! It was kinda fun to see a little bit of Halloween interaction and celebration. We don't get to really do anything tonight. We are just going to hang out with sister West and her family. Yay! :)

We contacted this referral we got from the Gladys Knight fireside. He had been in the hospital for a while so we couldn't get a hold of him, but we met with him and I just have this feeling that he is prepared. He is somewhat handicapped, and he is just such a nice guy. He said that at Gladys he felt such a strong spirit of love. And he felt like he was finally a part of something and actually belonged. When Gladys spoke, he said it felt like she was talking to only him, that there was nobody else in the church, and what she said just hit him really hard. So we talked a lot about how God loves him so much and wants him to be happy. He also said he was wanting us to come by but we never did... So that is cool 'cause he was like waiting for us and actually wanted to be taught!

We drove up into the country kinda to go find streets to knock. But there wasn't really many 'streets' it was just random houses. But it was beautiful. The world is so cool. I think God has some pretty good taste :)

Alright, well have a great week.

Sour Soup 10/24/2011

Whhoowee. This is like the first week I have ever said the word "Cold" in Texas I am pretty sure. One day this week we had to wear our suit jackets out. And that day was all blustery and cold and it was so weird. And I was secretly freezing. But it was kinda fun to have a change in weather although it was somewhat drastic.

We have had some opportunities to do some work this week. Sadly there are times where the work somewhat slows down because you have to go off of other peoples' schedules. And sometimes people don't want to meet with you anymore, so that is really lame and so things don't work out. But, nonetheless it has been a very good week, I'd say.

Brother Harbour is my favorite person ever. We are going to teach him tonight. I cannot wait to get an update and teach more. Sometimes, I wonder if he is the reason I have been sent to Leander.

So we found this Cambodian couple (see above picture). They are straight up Cambodia. And they wanted us to come back and so we did. I think like 3 times this week. Anyway. They gave us some authentic Cambodian Soup. It was kinda weird but kind of alright. It was called 'Sour Soup' ... And it smelled like straight up Menudo. But I am still alive and so it was fun to try something I am totally not used to.

We are continuing to find. And trying to work with the ward and with less actives. Some times it is hard and I feel like I am not the most successful missionary out there. But I know that when I work hard and do it with Heavenly Father, everything good will come.

Everyone there will have moved here. 10/17/2011

I saw the FATTEST cat I have ever seen in my life this week. The people that we ate with had it.

We met these legit Cambodian people. Normally when people say, "I don't speak much English..." I can still communicate with them. However, not these people. So the husband went to church with misionaries for like a year back in Cambodia and so he was like, "oh cool. Maybe we will come to your church." And we ordered a Cambodian Book of Mormon for his wife who doesn't speak much English. We are so excited cause they want us to come back and the were so nice and funny. So we are stoked about that.

There have been a couple of people who flaked out on us, but its just how it goes. It is still a work in progress and we just keep pushing forward.

We met a less active guy who is somewhat old and is having a hard time getting around. He hasn't been to church in a long time, but he still knows its true. He said that he had been going through just such a rough time and so he decided to pray and soon after, we showed up at his door. Whenever I hear anything lik that it just strengthens my testimony of how missionaries are truly the servants of Heavenly Father. And it is such a blessing to be used as a tool in His hands. It is honestly the biggest honor to have the experiences we do as missionaries.

Funny thing is: We keep running into people who like to tell us what we believe. And how we are wrong. And then they tell us like weird stuff and they just want to fight. And honestly, I have to have some self discipline to keep from laughing hysterically. It is just so funny that people have such hatred toward the truth. I mean I do feel really bad for them "cause of how hard hearted they are, but still, some of these people should just be on a soap opera or something.

It's kinda fun sometimes to read the Book of Mormon in Spanish.

Okay fun fact. Yesterday I overheard how many people were at Sacrament meeting... TWO HUNDRED and FORTY SOMETHING! What? I started laughting and I said, "In my last ward, we were lucky to have like 45!" It's kinda cool there are lots of active people here.

We do a lot of knocking. And just trying to be good people, I guess. Sometimes it pays off. Its funny. This lady this week was like, "You are the guys on the bikes, right?" ... "yes." and then she asks, "What do you guys even do!?" And then we get to teach and testify to her about the truth. So its fun.

I hope this week is very great.

Visitors Welcome 10/10/2011

Ohh this week.
We taught brother H yet again. I freaking love that guy. We talked about conference which he saw the Sunday morning session cause he had to work otherwise...But he said he quite enjoyed it.

We knocked a lot.

We taught his kid and he was pretty interested, so I am excited to check back in with him.

A lady from a few weeks back came to church yesterday. She texted us and said she is interested in learning more. SO I AM STOKED!:) She told us, "Thanks for inviting us and like thanks for having us" stuff like that, I was like, "Well the sign out front says "Visitors Welcome!" so you can come whenever you want!' And then when I asked when we could come over this week she was like, "Well...Visitors Welcome!" So it was kinda funny.

WE GOT RAIN!! Ooohh baby it felt so good. I haven't seen that stuff in like forever.
Looking forward to this week.

I am grateful that you pray for me and the people we work with. Prayers are like the most important thing ever. So thank you.

"This cereal tastes like pebbles and sand." 10/03/2011

Norma West, the lady we live with and really my best friend ever, said this heading today about some granola she was eating! She is honestly honestly so hilarious. I hope you enjoy this picture of her.

Conference made me die for joy, I'm pretty sure. I don't know if you heard all the angels singing in the background, but it was pretty legit. For real, I am so glad that we have such inspired men who help us to enjoy being taught by the Spirit. There were so many talks that I loved and I did take some notes and I keep going over them, but I cannot wait until the Ensign comes out because I am going to make copies of those talks and hand them out like they are some sort of pass along card.

So this week went pretty well. We were busy and stuff and tried to teach a lot of people. Some things didn't work out but we still have some pretty sweet people that we will be working with and I am so excited to continue working with them and helping them.

My new companion is Elder Caldwell. He is from... Utah. He is from Lehi to be exact. He is nice and stuff like that and I am excited to work with him and see what's up and all that jazz. This week has been real good, I guess...Uhh, I am still alive and learning a lot every day so that is a good sign.
